In previous threads people recommended I fix my steering coupler among other things. I know my steering is a bit messed up. And my friend is parting out his 1986 camaro(iroc-z?) with a 305 tpi. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not any of the steering components could be used in my '77 vette. Maybe as an upgrade to my steering or some parts to use as replacement parts.
Its just a thought that came to mind. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Camaro and Corvette boxes are different beasts. The Saginaw pump will be the same, but its mounting bracket will be different. Remember, the Corvette has a Corvette only water pump and a Camaro pump bracket will not allow the pulleys to line up if fitted to a Corvette. Don't know about the rag joint, but why not:-
1. Diagnose what you problem/s is/are,
2. Buy only the parts you need, and
3. Buy new parts, not second hand. Why cheap out on your steering?
If you find out that the steering box is worn, the control valve needs rebuilding and the ram is leaking, why not throw the whole lot out and replace it with a much superior Borgeson integral power steering box? I have one on my '74 coupe and it made a huge difference to the way the car handles and steers.
I don't know if this will help, but I've read about a Jeep steering box conversion. I don't know what year and model Jeep box they use or what else they change, but I do know that the 1984 Camaro steering box is an exact fit for a 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Maybe the box from the 1986 Camaro could be used to do a Jeep box conversion.

Pelayo,
Borgeson use a Delphi 600 type steering box for their Corvette conversions. Jeep also used this box in some of their models but it will NOT bolt straight into a Corvette. There's a number of threads here if you look where guys have tried to fit a Jeep box to their Corvette and their results are varied.
Borgeson has done all of the homework on this conversion and you would be wise to go with them if you wanted to upgrade your steering. Check them out at www.borgeson.com.
Borgeson box is almost a drop in replacement steering box.Bolts in the same location no fabrication needed.Hardest part is getting the pitman arm off the old box, and collapsing the steering shaft a few inches. One of the best upgrades so far.It also eliminates the control valve and hoses under the car.....[IMG][/IMG]
Which borgeson steering kit do you guys have on your vette? I want to save up money for a kit but I want to hear peoples opinions on the different kits.

Pelayo,
It's #999017 with manual steering or #999032 with factory power, so give Jeff or Gil a call at 860-482-8283 and they'll walk you through it.
