Hi folks, I've discovered I have what looks like a broken body mount on the driver's side rear corner. Here are the pics, can you tell me if I need to fix this right away or can it wait?
Thats not broken, its cancer, of the #4 mount. Needs to be replaced but tis been that way a while. Getting to the top side of the rivets is a pita, but it can be done, its a good weekend job
Not the end of the world and very common. It should be taken care of sooner than later, but no reason to panic and not get out and enjoy the first spring-like weather we have seen since last year!
Yes you can wait a bit , and it's not too hard to change , here's one I did I wanted to change the upper steele piece, but never got the part , it was a friends car make sure you use the same shims has you took out , the upper part is just held on by rivets ,Ron
Cut the old one out, check and the glass seemed fine
measured the gap and made up a spacer to hold everything in the right place, pried between the frame and body right there and slide the old mount out / spacer in
Took the new reinforcement and trimmed the back flange down just enough the sneak it in (can't get in there to rivet it anyway)
Put a health layer of poly-adhesive (basically exterior construction adhesive) all inside the bottom of the bracket, slid it inplace, put the mount with the shims back in and snugged up the bolt, riveted anywhere I could (2 in the front, side and 1 in the inside)
This picture one has some of the rivets in
