Hi,
I'll NEVER forget the first time I saw a 289 Cobra Dragonsnake at York U. S. 30 Dragway!
It pretty much ate the A/Sport Corvette's lunches when ever it wanted to.
1963-64?
Regards,
Alan
Not to take anything away from them but if you added up zora, yunick and jenkins there acomplishments combined would pale in comparison to carroll shelby.
Somewhere up there's a Cobra in a powerslide around a decreasing-radius turn and at near full-opposite lock with Carroll at the wheel...and a Corvette Grand Sport with Zora at the wheel in the rear view mirror. Later there'll be cold beers and long stories. Think of it as racing Valhalla. I think there's enough room for all the folks that made a difference there.
God bless Shelby. aside from his contributions to automobiles he raised millions for children with heart conditions. most of his commercial endorsements went to his foundations for children. we should search out our elder heroes and thank them for the impact they had on us Garlits just turned 80 and i saw him in Daytona thanked him for the impact his career had on me. he never allowed a tobacco or alcohol sponser because he felt it sent the wrong message to the kids.we will not see there likes again.

Have a good ride, Carroll.
and Enzo shaking his fist in anger at the noisy Americans.
He attended my old school, Woodrow Wilson High School in east Dallas (long before I did, however). A few years ago Woodrow celebrated their 75th anniversary and part of the ceremony was a classic car parade from Lakewood shopping center (for those familiar with the area) and Shelby was Grand Marshall, heading the parade in one of his Super Snake Mustangs. I had a chance to meet him....classy guy.
Carroll Shelby was a Car Guy. His was the picture in the dictionary beside the definition. The AC Shelby Cobra is still the most sought after muscle car of any era. He was out of the box his entire life. Godspeed Carroll you will be missed.

Nice comment.
The man with the girl's name was a living legend.
Without people like him in many different camps, racing and American made muscle cars would have not been the same.
Of course, my souped up 67 Camaro beat every local GT 350 & 500 in the good old days (1969-72).

Also read that Shelby was the longest living heart transplant survivor at the time of his death. He also had a kidney transplant from his son.
And he gave back to the medical research profession in a big way.

1960 doctors told him he had five yrs to live. He took nitro pills untill 1990 when he got the new heart. His son gave him a kidney in 1996.
So he lived 22 yrs with a replacement heart 16 yrs with a replacement kidney.

we owe Shelby alot for improving the Corvette. what, are you nuts you say? NO, the competition that Shelby brought to the table forced Chevy to invest millions to improve the Corvette. without him i doubt the L-88 or ZL-1 would have been built. and grandsports and other models too many to mention. yes we Corvette people owe him as much as the Ford guys do and maybe more.
