Could someone help me identify my heads on my 1980 L-82?
It's a 383 stroker, probably based on the original block. However, I do not know exactly what has been done to the engine.
All I can tell from the CF-logo is that they ar Cleveland Foundry heads, but that's about it.
Can anyone tell me what heads I have, based on the pics?
Wish I could help you but I can't, they do not look like stock GM heads to me. Normally you would find the casting numbers that ID the heads. Yours do have these numbers. I believe you car came with 624 heads stock I could be wrong.
Yeah, I think the original L82-heads have rod guide-plates as well as numbers visible from top. The CF-logo sets me off. Cleveland Foundry is a Ford-thing, right? (Like in the 351Cleveland-engine). Or am I totally wrong here??
I cannot see any numbers - I might have to remove the intake to see them.
The number are usually seen in the area that you have shown if they are GM. Should be a six digit number if I'm thinking straight. Hopefully someone else will chime in...
It looks to me that they are aftermarket of some kind. It's got self guided rockers on there, and it looks like the pushrod is also guided, so that is not good. The spring pockets look like they are cut for 1.46" or 1.5" springs and only have 1.25" springs installed.
It also looks like it's drilled for centrebolt valvecovers, and it's using vortec style bolts....
How about some more pics.....
I also see that you have screw in rocker studs. I'm at a loss to figure out what heads they are, I would suggest to try googling vortec style heads and see if you can come up with some similar pics.
You should get some non guided rocker arms on those heads, as the setup you have could bind and create unnecessary wear on the pushrods as they go through the heads.
Thanks sstocker, I'll take a look around. You have given me very nice info anyway. However, I was under the impression that you should use guided rockers. I guess those are the original L-82 rocker arms. Can you point me to some good rockers? What is preferred? Should I use roller-arms?

I don't think that they're Vortec heads because of the 6 bolts (per side) hold down of the intake manifold. From the first picture, if the center two bolts are at a different angle than the end bolts, that could narrow down the vintage of the heads.
Also note that the pushrod guiding is done by the elongated slots in the head, which means (as has been stated) that self-guiding rockers should not be used.
Another clue might be whether or not the ridge around the head is as cast (rounded), or has been milled flat as was done with Vortec and some aftermarket heads.
The end of the head may have markings as would the casting marks on the exhaust face of the head.
Yeah, I can see the 6+6 intake bolts point away from Vortec heads.
But how about the CF-logo? Doesn't that say anything? I can't find any numbers nor markings at head ends. Difficult to tell at exhaust-side. I probably need to take the head out to see down there.
I was lead to this page from a nice Corvette-owner on the Norwegian Corvette-forum. Helpful! http://www.onedirt.com/tech-stories/...k-chevy-heads/
I try to look around to see how I will solve the guided rods/arms issue. I'm not very experienced (re)building engines in any way, so if someone could lead me to a suitable set of rocker-arms?
Here is a good replacement for your rockers that you have on now. You can notice that the surface that contacts the valve is flat and smooth, where as the ones you have show two bumps to keep the rocker centred on the valve. Measure your stud and ensure it's 3/8" andnot 7/16". http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/...rentProductId=
There are lots of other options, it just depends how much you want to spend.......
Did a little searching for you and found this..... looks like they could be World products heads
