Default Problem getting the 72 started

After getting the car painted and putting everything back together I have put the back taillight harness together. The problem I am having is I am getting a humming noise when I turn the key on everything seams to work but the starter will not kick over? Ok; now to the rear harness, I do not have the anti theft key installed on the car and it was not when I got it. Do the pink and the orange wires to the rear key (anti theft) need to be connected for the car to start? When I was connecting all the taillights and back up lights they where apart. I can not remember if there where together and came apart when I was messing with everything. I currently do not have the pink and orange wires connected. dose this circuit need to be completed for the car to start?

Thanks

So, you were faced with 2 choices: either connect the alarm wires and turn the ignition key or logon to this forum and post this question. Did you think the anti-theft bomb would explode in your face if you connected the alarm wires?

The pink and orange alarm wires don't need to be connected for the engine to start.
Where is the humming coming from and is it when you turn the key to ON or to START ?
Your car should have some kind of neutral safety switch ,do you have the shifter in park or have the clutch pushed in ? Do you have these wires plugged in ?
