78 SA buzzer
Every once in a while the ole 78 SA while in the garage starts buzzing on its own. Sounds like key in ignition warning..but the key is always out. After going thru frantic routine of key on-off, open -shut door, kickin tires, begging, etc. it finally goes off..Anybody ever have this happen??
thanks, Lonzoo

Cant say I have heard of it happening but if it happened to mine I would be looking at the egnition switch first, mine is very touchy and it doesnt take much to wiggle my key in the off position to make it beep.
Cheers, Dennis.

Same '78 SA here.
Mine does the same thing, can go on for days, or an hour.
It stops when I get in the car and start it up.
I guess that's why I haven't been too concerned.
It's just reminding me that it's still there and wants to be driven.
Good to hear I'm not the only one.

Sounds to me that there are two things that are not functioning correctly.
First of all, there is a door switch. If the door is closed, the switch should be open and not allowing the buzzer to make noise. So if you have buzzer noise with door closed there is a door switch problem.
Next, with the key in the ignition lock cylinder there is a small plastic key buzzer tab that should extend from the ignition lock cylinder when the key is in the ignition and turned to ACCESSORY or OFF-LOCK.
That tab engages brass contacts that are part of the key warning buzzer switch that is installed inside the steering column head. The switch might be bad (i.e. closed all the time, as if a key was in the ignition) or the plastic tab on the lock cylinder could be gummed up and always extended (even when the key is not in the ignition). So in these cases you may need a new lock cylinder (or clean it out) or you need a new key buzzer switch.
