Default Engine ID number

OK all you vette fanatics, ive got a real stumper for you all. I just bought a 1982 corvette nothing special. The gentleman i bought it off of said it was a numbers matching car. Can someone please tell me what car this engine came out of. I have been looking for three hours now and i cant find nothing. the stamp on the front reads...V1203U5E. Yes thats right ....U5E.... All I can find out that it was built in Flint the 3rd day of December.

Every code I've seen that started with 'U' came from a light truck with a low perf. 160ish HP engine.

My Lime Book does not list U5E. It does have USF for a truck block.

Hi c,
Everyone can post pictures for free.
Upload it to a site like Photobucket. Then copy the IMG code for the picture and paste in in the body of your post or after the message.
You see the IMG code, and we see the picture!
It's really pretty easy!
Regards,
Alan

You don't have to pay money. Are you downloading the pic to "photobucket"? Then put the cursor over the pic and you will see 4 lines below the pic.. Left click on the last line (img) and it will say "copied".

Set up your post, right click & paste and it should show the link.

Try and get a clear pic to post.

And if you have an IPhone it's even easier. You can install a photobucket app, and upload pictures straight from your iphone. I do that, then get on the PC, and link in my post.

Sure as heck looks like U5E to me.

What's the casting number and date on the block?

The casting number and date can be found on the back of the block, on the flange that the bellhousing bolts to. The casting number is cast into the top of the flange, on the drivers side, behind the left hand head, while the date is in the same area behind the right hand head.

I know it's hard to see down in there, but these numbers may help narrow down what the engine is.

thanks to everyone for the help i tried to get the rest of the numbers but cant get to them. Im really depressed that its not a numbers mathing car. This was one of the things on my bucket list to restore a matching numbers corvette. Oh well. Thanks again to everybody who stuck with me thru my rookie thread LOL. if anybody comes across any news on the oddball suffix prefix let me know.

If the seller put something in writng about it being the original engine, then go back to him.
