So Im finishing up my motor and I need a new water pump. I dont need anything fancy or super expensive. Just a decent pump that works well. Summit has many to choose from but I was thinking this would possibly work? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-312534/
Im also going to put a new fan clutch on since its all apart. Would this be fine? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-2741/
If anyone knows of a better for same amount of money or one thats cheaper and the same quality please let me know. Thanks!
Some aftermarket pumps have issues with pulley alignment.
yes this is true the corvette doesnt use the Llong or the short pump they use a corvette specific lenght that is in between long and short. buy one for use on a corvette or it will not line up ! ask me how i know. i have a few longs and shorts laying around the shop
I have used the Stewart water pump now for a few years on my 78 L-82 and have been very satisfied: I use the aluminum stage 2 pump and the car has never run cooler-$175. Stage 1 cast iron is $90. For the little extra money, I would highly recommend their pumps and they sell a corvette specific one-fits perfectly.

I just installed this pump and used some pulley shims to align the pulleys without a problem. I also installed the Hayden 2741 fan clutch again without any issues. Recommend these two items. Also, you need a thermostat that has holes drilled into the top if use the Stewart Stage 2 pump because it doesn't have a bypass function. It's not a big deal.
i agree to try to rebuild the pump if possible.they seem very heavy duty and mine needed only cleaning and gaskets.luckily because i could not find the rebuilding parts for my year pump.only the early years were available.good luck.
GM or Stewart. You won't go wrong with either one.
IMCO I would not skimp on cooling system components especially for a Corvette.
Good luck with what ever you choose.
The new GM/Delcos are some of the ugliest pumps I have ever seen. I went with a new NAPA pump. I did a little clean up on the hose neck area and outside. OK so far. mike...
