I am installing new motor mounts in my C3. When I took the old ones out they fit the frame very tight. I just checked both new ones to see how they would fit. They have about 1/4" play side to side (front to back of the car) they are wider than the ones that came out. I then looked at the old ones and they seem to have been bent (hammered) to fit. How tight are these things supposed to fit?
i just did this job and did not have to bang, squeeze or bend anything.the replacement mounts were supplied by my local corvette guy and were identical to the originals.they are not branded which is disturbing but he claims these are the good ones.hopefully this picture helps.good luck.
Years ago I purchased a set of mounts for my 1980 from one of the large Corvette Vendors. They did not fit - loose as you describe. Then I tried a set from one of the local nationwide local parts store - same as the Corvette vendor.
Finally, I ordered a pair from my local Chevy dealer. They cost about 3 times what the others did but, they fit perfectly. Same as the originals.
Was not worth my time to screw around with ill fitting mounts.
Thanks for the picture billcarson. Those look just like mine. I bet you did what I should have done, and mounted them on the motor and just put it in without checking to see how they fit. In a day or two I will probably just put them in and tighten the crap out of them, if they still seem loose, make some spacers I guess.
