HEI Distributor
I am having problems with my distributor holding timing consistantly. It constantly jumps around. Time for a new one. I was planning on replacing it with another HEI. I have been looking at ones with 50,000 and 65,000 volt spark. It is going in a 79 with a 406. Looking for some opinions from the Vette pros on which one to get.

Are you certain the timing chain is not too slack ? That will make your timing wander . Have you tried another timing light ? The distributor has centrifugal weights on posts that wear . Check to see if the posts haven't worn through and are allowing the weights to flop around .

Also worth looking at the free play in the distributor shaft.
