Is there anything special that needs to be done when replacing the needle on the tach? I know there is for the speedometer
I have the replacement needle from ZIPS but just need to know if all that needs to be done is pushing it into place or not!
Any help would be great
I could not tell you if there is a 'master' spline to keep it on the correct postion on the tach shaft. I did this years ago on a Camaro and I think I had the same trouble and had to synchonize the rpm's to the needle position.
I was not able to do it while it was running but disconneted the tach wire and set the needle at zero, From what I recall I think it worked OK although I have seen Corvette tachs sit at all locations when shut off.
You need to know the replacement needle is most likely a speedometer needle. The hub is larger than the tach needle hub.
You'll need to carefully slice off the 'nubs' that hold the needle to the hub and use your existing tach hub.
After you get it in place on the hub you can use a small soldering iron to "weld" the nubs back in place.
For installation, simply turn the key to "on" so that the tach sets itself to zero and then slip the needle into place pointing to zero.
