Default Who Makes C3 High Performance Mufflers

I have a 68 convertible that will soon need some replacement mufflers. The last set I put on was probably 15 years ago and they were called turbo style at the time. I am running a stock, under car system that exits out the back. I would like to find a low restriction muffler that uses original style hangers and lines up with the exhaust cut-outs. Can anyone help me out?? Thanks

Great information. I love the sound of my Flowmaster 40's. Lots of people complain about resonance but I have none. I guess it depends on the diameter of the exhaust and if you use an X or H pipe. I use 3 inch diameter pipes and an H pipe

I had a pair of Flowmaster 50 series mufflers installed on my '81 afew years ago, and they fit "Perfectly" and fit on the original hangers, etc.. Never a problem since, and they flow super well. Good Luck.

I went with 21/2 inch pipes and Dynomax high flow mufflers and love it at 30 mph you can't hear them but at idle they have a nice rumble .

I went with the 2.5" N-11 system from Corvette (Exhaust) Central. Best sound I've ever heard.

http://www.corvettecentralexhaust.co...k_off_road.php

Check the videos on the right. They are on a C-2, but its the same system.

Here is the system on my car.

Default How did the mufflers fit??

Mufflers sound great on your car...did you get the fully welded exhaust pipe and muffler or just the mufflers?? Exhaust tips look lined up nicely in openings, were there any problems installing them or getting the mufflers to align properly.
Thanks, Chris

I got the fully welded system since I was changing over from headers and side pipes back to under the car. I'm also running 2.5 inch manifolds instead of the stock 2 inchers. I had the system installed, so I cant speak to how easy they are to align, but they do seem to fit very well.

Guys I've been using Cherry Bomb Turbo Mufflers for, well since I was a kid.

They are less money and to me have that special rumble.
Since I put in the 700r4 all you can hear now is the wind at 70mph at 2100rpm

Here is what they sound like. Click on the picture.

It may take a few to load the file, but it still makes me smile.

For true performance you want to match the CFM flow of the mufflers to the CFM of the carb/motor. A successful system is one that the engine sees as not being there.

Everyone!
I use Flowmaster Super 40's. I have tried several. My first set was the original single chamber 40's but they were so loud and the resonance inside the car at highway speeds was a deal breaker for me. The Supper 40's eliminated that but still has plenty of "growl" and a "roar" when I get on it. They flow very well and are supposed to out perform the original 40s. I get compliments all the time as to how good it sounds. I am running a 427 small block.

Just a word from my own experiences. Keep in mind that if you want to hear the sound that you will get from a muffler on a C3 you will need to listen to it on a C3. Since there are virtually no tail pipes on these cars any muffler will sound different/louder than it would on say a Chevelle.

Good luck!
