Who Makes C3 High Performance Mufflers
Good luck!
Very true. Also, headers vs. stock exhaust manifolds makes a difference. Different motor types can play a role too- i.e. a low comp. w/ mild cam vs. high comp. w/ hot cam will sound different to some degree. Try to listen to a Vette with a comparable motor if possible but that's not as critical as the point made by Rick.
Limey 1955, I found this info 3 or 4 years ago on ls1 website but looks like the test was on a 5 liter mustang. Here is a post from ls1

The test was done in 5.0 Mustang Magazine December 2002 issue (page 55) if anyone happens to have a copy and can clear this question up.
It was a chassis dyno. . . those are RWHP numbers from a Notchback w/ heads/cam and bolt-ons.
I think they lost hp w/ no mufflers becuz they didn't mess w/ the fueling to accomodate the new flow.
On another note, the Borla XS is my favorite. . . it was their favorite in the article too, and that's what I'd go w/ on a custom cat-back.

There is no better substitute than hearing it in person on the right type of car. Numbers are great but they won't tell you if there are any adverse affects of a particular muffler. The biggest one being what some people call "droning" that seems to be common with performance mufflers. Very annoying and something you want to avoid. Overall volume is one thing but I think its more important to avoid ending up with something that is annoying to listen to at certain RPM's.
I recommend making it to a car show with a lot of C3's if possible, like Bloomington Gold this weekend. It helps if you can talk to other drivers as well as exhaust characteristics change constantly while driving. Don't be in a hurry, you'll live with this one for a long time.
