Default dashlights

Hey guys....the dashlights are out in my '80 vette as well as the dome light. The drivers side power window is not working either, but I'm not sure they're related. A mechanic told me it was the headlight switch so I changed it. Still no lights. I'm having a vette guy look at it on friday, but where would you suggest to look next?

Thanks!

For the dash lights, make sure the INST light fuse has power on both sides when the HL switch is pulled out.
Domelight is on the Courtesy light circuit.

I just replaced all of mine and Wow does it make a difference in the look and readability. It is not That hard to do and it really improves the readability and accuracy of the gauges

All of your fuses or all of the dash light bulbs?

Just spoke to my mechanic and they think the dashlight problem is the printed circuit board? Does this sound like a possibility?

My dash lights don't get very bright. They went out once and it was the fuse. I replaced the printed circuit board because it had a wire soldered on the back of it. My lights are still dim. So I guess I need a headlight switch. I'd check your dash ground or printed circuit board for your problem.

Yes, but there are other things to check first. Fuses - instrument panel and courtesy. Dash harness ground.

Make sure the wiring harness plug that goes in the dash is well pushed in, a light switch may do it also , or a fuse . or printed circuit

Ok....so far I've replaced the headlight switch and speedo/tach circuit board. I have interior lights and the directional indicators work. Still no dash lights. Any other thoughts?

Does the INST fuse have power on both sides of the fuse ?

Can someone provide a picture of this wiring harness plug that goes into the dash?

Mine work-sometimes. My low fuel works every so often, but doesn't stay on when fuel is low. It'll go out after a minute or so, and that's the only one that works above the gauges.

My mechanic is doing the work. I'll check with him. I would hope that they checked it though....I was just wondering if there was anything I could help them with. They're kind of stumped.

Update: After much head scratching and hair pulling out they're fixed. Turns out the car at one point had power door locks that were removed. Apparently the wires were just cut inside the doors and were shorting out the dashlights.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

OMG , How much did they get you for ? That explanation is very questionable.

Nope. That's what they said. Very inexpensive too....

But it may have been a process of elimination. I changed the headlight switch and they put in the speedo/tach circuitboard.
