Ok, I ordered a new upper contact assy from Ecklers, and it has the new plastic rivit looking things in it holding it together.
So, I snap it onto my horn button, its hard, but it goes on and off.
However, once the contact is screwed onto the column, pushing the horn button onto it just forces the plastic rivits out, and the contact ring moves backwards, making it impossible to snap the button on.
So, anyone ever have to get around this problem? I keep trying, and they keep popping out. I don't want to do it a lot for fear I'll break the rivits and have to buy another $19 part for a piece of plastic. :mad
Should I bend the contact clips out a little? Or will that make the button loose?
Thanks.
The centers must be in the rivets, huh? So when you tighten it down the centers slide back up preventing you from snapping the button on? If so just take the contact off, push the centers of the rivets back down, and trim the part that hangs below the rivet off with a knife.
So you got the upper contact assembly from ecklers? What do they use for a spacer between the halves of the contact? I had to use some paper to keep them apart when I put mine together, but was wondering what I am supposed to use.
Some of the Corvette catalogs sell the plastic rivets for 3 bucks. That's what I used to fix mine. Sounds like you may need to try another set of rivets...the whole thing sounds like it's new and too tight! :smash:
That's exactly what it was... too tight. I just bent the retainer a little bit with needle nose pliers, and it snapped on.
Man, seems like if you were to accidentally let your hand brush the horn button while you're driving, it would beep! Its pretty sensitive.... but it works!
Justin,
they put a REALLY thin layer of cork cut in a circle in there.
