I hope someone can guide me.
I had my car outside in the driveway (covered) since lasst summer while I built a new garage for it.
Towards the end of last summer, it wouldn't start and I noticed that no gas was flowing in the primary of the carb (Holley).
So I finally got the car into it's new home and re-built the carburator.
Then, earlier this week, when I tried to start it, it wouldn't fire.
It wouldn't fire because water was pumping through the carbutator instead of gas.
I found that water was filled to the top in the compartment where the gas cap is. So it seeped into the tank.
I started draining hte tank, but am wondering what other steps I should be taking.
Drain the tank, blow out the fuel lines to the pump, drain the carb and fuel line between the carb and fuel pump, replace filter, add some good fuel and fire it up.
How much "water" did it dump down the intake? You may need an oil change too????
I didn't try for too long so I don't think there was a significant amount of water pumped into the intake. But isn't even just a little water too much.
I will certainly unclog the drain hose.
I will be back in the garage tonight. I'll finish draining the tank, remove the carb and start blowing out the lines.
Fix the drain hose that prevents water from collecting around the filler cap.
Good point. Mine had a wasp mud nest inside the filler drain hose behind the rear bumper when I bought the car. Ran a coat hanger up the hose and it flushed out fine.

That will be a judgement call. If you just had a squirt or two from the carb, probably no big deal. If you pumped the crap out of the carb trying to start it, maybe quite a bit of H2O in the oil??? See if you have any milky moisture on the dipstick. I wouldn't think a few drops from the squirters would hurt too much though.
