Default wire confirmation hellp-pics

thanks to all who serve as virtual mentors on the forum-tremendous help on getting things done the right way. 69, 350, 4 speed, no a/c.

After reviewing the AIM and a vendor catalog, I can't figure how the cigar lighter connection secured, OR is it the cigar lighter? Doesn't match AIM. Mine looks like it could support a bulb, not mate to the cigar lighter.

There are four wires, and working from south to north in the photo: cigar lighter?, double black (I believe this is the ground for cigar lighter) an orange wire (bubba fingerprint) and a purple with a black connector (needed for cars with a/c?) Help with identifying all four wires needed. Thanks

Ok I'll take a shot
The double black is console ground, I believe there is a spade on one of the screws under the shifter plate, top right IIRC

The orange is actually the cig-lighter (constant, un-switched)

The grey with the funny end is part of the little light that went on the side of the lighter so you could see the hole with the lighter out

The purple I'm not 100% on but I thing it's park of the neutral safety swtich

Great help! That makes much more sense. There is a spade on the cigar lighter assm, but I will look under the shifter plate to double check.

The lighter has a spade but it should be for the orange lead

That is actually the power (+12) that goes to the center
The reflector is on the side there where the bulb goes in

From your photo, I must have the wrong assembly, that explains alot. Now on to finding the right part and learning about the purple wire. Thanks Mooser!

Don't assume mine is right, mine was a replacement from ecklers, it's probably from a later year
I think the early ones (like yours shows) use a center stud look closer to proper.

Not sure about the ground tab

Check under that tape on the orange and see if it fits that center stud on yours. If it does, then use that outside tab as your ground and all looks well.

Just checked, my ground is on a tab bolted to the side of the heater control. Yours being earlier may well be on the lighter

My AIM does show a page for the lighter, grounds, etc. a few pages before that one you showed from yours

With my current set up, a solid cylindrical shape without a hole or slot for the light bulb, I do not think it is original. After reviewing the replacment part from the vendors, they all show a feature to accomodate the light bulb--similar but not identical to yours.
