Default sorry, stupid question headlights?

New to the forum and new to Corvette. Bought a 76 Corvette and replacing one of the head lamps and was wondering do all 4 headlights stay on together or are the highs on? I'm not sure if all 4 are suppose to be on or only 2.just want to make sure the writing is not messed up.thanks

2 low beams on all the time. 2 high beams come on with bright switch making all 4 burn.
at least thats how my 80 works.

When one activates the high beams there should be an indication light on the instrument panel. The switch, in my 74, is a pedal that compresses the switch. There are definitely high and low beams. Look for the indicator light (blue, in my case). LOL

The Lo-beam lamps are double-filament types; the Hi-beams are single filament bulbs. When Lo-beam lights are on, only the L0 filament of the regular bulbs are on. When Hi-beams are selected, both filaments of the regular bulbs are on AND the Hi-beam bulbs are on.

Haven't you ever seen a car with 4 headlights before? I must be getting old!

Yes, when you turn the headlights on, the two lo-beams light up. When you turn on the hi-beams, The hi-beams come on, and the lo-beams stay on, also. To clarify: lo-beams, two lights on, hi-beams, four lights on. If I am not mistaken, the outboard lights are the lo-beams, and the inboard lights are the hi-beams.

Hmmmm.......7T1, I know I'm highjacking the thread, and I apologize, but you just made me think of something, and I would like to clarify. If I were to install hi-beam bulbs in all 4 light sockets, would that make my low beams a little brighter when just the lo-beams were on, because of the single filament?

Afraid that won't work. The lo-beam lights have two filaments and the combination of BOTH filaments yields the same light power (watts/lumens) as the single filament hi-beam lamp. Also, only the lo-beam wiring has the TWO power feed lines for those filaments; the hi-beam line has only one power wire.

Headlights can be a bit confusing. Just to clarify, the 4 headlights have 6 filaments between them.
When the low beams are on ,2 filaments are lit.

When the high beams are turned on, the 2 above filaments turn off,2 different filaments inside the low beam come on ,plus 2 filaments in the high beam bulbs come on.

When the high beams are on ,4 filaments are lit (not 6).
