Heh guys. I would like to clean my motor and undercarriage but I'm concerned that I might damage hoses etc., Should I
use a pressure washer or should have it done professionally. My 1980 C3 has multiple fluid leaks , which I'm in the proces
of fixing.
On the lighter side these babies kick butt. again...I live in a small town and the local base boomer in his civic with a, what
5-6- inch tail pipe , wanted to race last night at the stop lights.. I've only had my vette for 6 months and it was quite the experience
to stomp on the petal and and see him in my mirror. What a great feeling.
did mine last weekend..used de-gunker..any foam engine de-greaser will work,,foamed the under caridge really good and let it sit for a few..while i drank a few..beers ofcource,,then used a presure washer and sprayed the bottom off..i got more dirt and grease on me than in the driveway..then drank more beer,ofcource..then did the engine bay..be carefull with the pressure washer cause it will rip the paint right off ur vette..i found out that my engine and pan where painted blue..never knew that before due to the 5 inches of grease build-up...after ur finished ..drink a few more beers ofcource...great weekend job..no need to get someone else to do this, its just a great excuse to drink beers,ofcource.. :D
You can use Gunk Engine Degreaser, or you can also give any Simple Green or Purple cleaner a shot. I like to fog the cleaner on, take a brush and brush the crud. Then hose it. As the shampoo bottles say: lather, rinse, repeat.
Just be careful of the carburetor and the distributor cap. The rest is pretty safe.
Simple Green is bio-degradable and will not damage your paint or driveway. As advised, wrap your carb and distributor in plastic and go at it with a scrubbing brush and old tooth brush.
And once it's clean, you can keep it that way. It'll only take a few extra minutes to wipe it down each time you wash the car. Wipe down the underside whenever you're under the car, it also only takes a couple of minutes if done regularly. Besides having a much nicer looking engine, you'll be able to find and fix those little leaks before they become big ones.
