Default Half Shafts

Where can I find "good" half shafts for an "80" . I've been looking and also have heard bad stories. Opinions please.

There's a place in Fort Wayne that makes them new. Think they post a listing on ebay once in a while. Fort Wayne Clutch & Driveline I believe.

If your engine is putting out 450 hp or more, you also need to install safety retaining straps which surround those half-shafts. If you break a U-joint or twist/break a shaft, the remaining part of the shaft attached to the diffy will tear the he!! out of your underbody, if you don't.

Scroll down the Drag Vette link below and you will find new half shafts, safety loops and much more.

Fort Wayne Clutch has them also. Up to a couple years ago they were priced at $150 a pair, but then the price of metal went up, as we sent all our scrap to China.

If you are going to do any straight line racing, installing safety loops at the same time as half shafts makes sense.

The 3 inch half shafts are a direct fit as a replacement for the smaller diameter shafts used on early C-3 and C-2 Vettes. The 3 inch are stronger and clear up the good and bad shafts. Nothing bad about a 2 inch shaft, but as HP increased with sticky tire compounds, so did the number of twisted 2 inch shafts.

Heard where the ones from Mid-America failed.

Like most parts, there's probably only one or two manufacturers who supply to all retail vendors. Who made the shafts that Mid America sells?

BTW- I'm not so sure that the 3" OEM shafts are any stronger than the earlier 2.5" shafts.
