Default Non vette Coolant Question

Was checking a 94 fleetwood today{for a older neighbor} and when the radiator cap was removed there was a jeey like substance on the bottom of the cap and around the spring of the cap.Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It almost looked like green apple sauce. Do you think this could be a result of someone putting in some kind of stop leak product? Any input would be gratly appeciated,Thanks :seeya

Does everything else look okay? (especially the oil) When was the last time your neighbor had the fluid changed?

Just came back from next door and found the following...engine oil looks OK service records indicate it was changed every 3k...trans fluid slightly brown not milky..now at the radiator found where the trans cooling line go's in to the radiator itself there is some weaping of oil on the out side of the side tank. Which way would a leak flow...thinking of putting in some dye from gm to find out but unsure weither to put in into the trans or the coolant?

IT sounds like it's been quite awhile since the coolant was changed, so it could very well be just very old and tired Anti-freeeze. I'd try just changing the coolant after you flush the system real good and install new anti-freeze, then run it around for a few hundred miles and see if it hasn't cleaned itself up. There's no sense fixing something that's not broke.

I changed the anti-freeze recently on a truck that I inherited. It was an 88 F-150 with only 58k miles. The fluid must have never been changed. The overflow hose was stopped up because the gunk was so thick. I flushed everything out so many times and now every thing looks good.
I agree with the above post. You need to change the antifreeze and flush several times in the process.
