is there any way to tell if a 68 or 69 was an orginial L 88 if there is no paper work or motor in the car. is there any tell in or on the car at all. thanks
from supercars.com
The L88 included much more than just an engine upgrade. Mandatory factory upgrades included a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher or M20 Hydramatic Transmission, power-assisted heavy duty brakes, an F41 heavy duty suspension with new coil springs and dampers, G81 positraction differential and a special cowl induction hood. Furthermore, interior options such as air conditioning, a heater/defroster system and a radio were were not available. After all was said and done the the L88 doubled the price of a standard Corvette.

Probably not.
I don't know about 67s but I'm pretty sure all 68s and 69s had heaters.
J56 HD disc brakes is a biggie. A true L88 will have the dual pin HD calipers. (Not necessarily absolute confirmation since they could have been added, but it's a pretty good indicator.)
Other indicators are K66 Transistorized Ignition, M22 HD 4 speed transmission, no radio (not available with the L88), F41 HD suspension and G81 positraction. All these are available on other Corvettes, but you better have them all on a true L88.
You say it doesn't have the original engine, but what about the distributor? Or the radiator? The L88 radiator is aluminum with no shroud. There are other things to check as well, but all these will get you started.
wow thanks could not remember what all was special on my buddy andys 68 L88 -blue with a black vinyl removable top. i believe it had a sticker on the inside on the console that stated use only high test gas or something like that. again that you all.

No. The L-88 and everything that went with it was optional equipment. All of it was available over the counter at Cheverolet parts departments. Any and all of the package could have been added by a previous owner. Remember: all 345 of the 196 factory built L-88 cars have been located.
