Default 427 choke coil placement

Hello. I'm new to the forum. I've been working on an early 1969 Corvette I recently purchased that has a 427 4-speed. I just replaced the quadrajet carb (It came with an after market carb) and I purchased what I thought was the correct choke coil and rod but I can't see where to mount it. Most of the pictures I've seen show a small tower that the coil sits on but my manifold does not have this. There is a flat spot just below where the choke is on the carb and there seems to be a place where a bolt may have sheered off but the coil Zip sold me does not seem to fit in this area. Can anyone tell me (or show me with a photo) how their choke coil mounts?

Most of the choke coils mount with one screw at the back center of the coil (carb side of coil).
But some of the 69-70 mount with the coil screw at front (valve cover side) with the screw towards the rear of the motor.
You need to get the right coil for your manifold, I think your rod will fit either (with a twik).
Hope this helps.

I think we first have to ask if you have the original or date correct Q-Jet and intake manifold.

If so there should be no issue or you will see something obvious in the choke coil / rod part you are looking at.

You didn't say which 427 you have and that does make a difference. For instance, the L36 (427/390) intake (3947801) has a "pocket" in the manifold on the passengers side where the coil fits into. Here's a picture showing the "pocket".

Default 427 Choke Coil

Thanks for the responses and the picture. I do have a 390 horse 427 car but my manifold does not look like the picture you posted. The area in the picture where the coil goes is flat on my manifold. I'll take a picture when I get home and post it. I may have a non stock manifold. Can anyone tell me where I can get information regarding the period correct partnumbers for this car? It is supposed to be numbers matching but I didn't check every piece out before I purchased. Obviously the carb was wrong so maybe the manifold is too.....

If you don't have the "pocket", then yes, you probably have an aftermarket intake. The casting number for the 427/390 engine is 3947801, but be prepared to pay a TON of $$$ for one. It was only used in 1969 and only on the 427/390 engine.

Thanks for the replys. After doing some checking I've found out that the intake is off of a 454 so now I need to purchase a new intake manifold. Does anyone have one sitting around?
