flynhi, get an SI17 series alt...from late 70's Seville with rear window defogger...rated 108 amps, only slightly larger diameter, but fits/works fine...
they can be hotrodded for higher output than that even...but no problems way it is and I have electric cooling fans/ a-c the works....
OH on the core thing...pay the charge, and return the old 'core' later, that way you not questioned for the upgrade, and possibly have the core refused....
