Default Engine removal

Can I remove engine and trans together or do I have to leave the trans in? I have a new engine to put in and was thinking of changing the clutch as well to accommodate the more HP eng. also do I need to put the car on ramps or jack stands to remove as one unit. Any help would be great

you can pull both together ,just make sure that you have everything disconnected underneath, before you take your hood off ,mark where the hinges are on the hood so you can put it back with ease, and you will need another person to help you ,but not your wife or girlfriend ,they are in the way!!!

Either way works fine.
If you leave the transmission in you will need to have some way to support the front. A jack or jack stand works fine, but if you need to move the car around for anything it becomes a problem.
I have a 3" wide ratchet strap running from one frame rail to the other and a couple of 2x4 blocks supporting the front of my turbo 400 right now.
If you pull the engine/transmission as a unit you will absolutely need a load leveler in order to adjust the angle to clear the firewall and radiator. You may need a 2 ton hoist with a longer reach too.

No. Once you have everything disconnected on both the bottom and the top, you can have the car sitting on its wheels & tires. Put a floor jack under the tranny (inserted from the front) to lift it just barely clear of the crossmember. Then, lift the engine up just high enough to clear the engine mounts, and let the entire assembly come forward, raising the engine as you come forward. As soon as the tranny tailshaft housing clears the crossmember, drop the jack down and pull it out, letting the tranny tailshaft drop to the floor. You can then finish pulling the engine/tranny assembly up, forward, and out. Be sure to remove your distributor cap so it doesn't get broken against the firewall.

You will need a driveshaft yoke or some way to plug the end of the transmission or you will have oil everywhere . Remove the rad or risk damaging it .
An adjustable engine lift cradle will help you adjust the angle of the unit as you lift it .

FYI - make sure your hoist boom is long enough to clear the nose of the car and still hook up the motor. Standard hoists typically will not reach - ask me how I know

I found it MUCH easier to remove the radiator support. It gives you a bunch of extra room up front for the motor and you don't have to angle the engine and trans much at all to pull it over the nose.

When I pull the engine together with the transmission, can I leave linkage on the trans. The new 350/350hp should be back from the builder next week. Any tips on detailing engine compartment.

My plan is to:
Remove hood
Fan shroud
Radiator
Radiator support
Dizzy
Carb
Exhaust manifolds
Fuel pump line
Power steering pump
Oil pressure line
Starter
2 Bolts from shifter on 4 speed up top
Transmission mount bolts
Drive shaft
Water pump hose
Speed o cable
Tach cable
Alternator plug
Ground cable
2 motor mount bolts

Did I miss anything, it has been 25 years since I did this on my 68 SS, any help would be great. Thanks all for reading

350 / 350+ engine should I change the motor mount to solid ones?

on your hood, unbolt the hinges from the fender and not the hood, the keeper for the nuts for those , at least on mine, are riveted and require almost no adjustment to re install. you're not that fer from removing the front clip
