rough idle help

rough idle help

Need a little help with a rough idle. The idle is very rough, almost stalls, but off idle it runs fine at part and full throttle. I thought it could be a vacuum leak so I disconnected the vac line at the distrib and there was no difference. So I'm guessing it's not that. My hunch is something in the carb. Could there be a jet that's clogged or something? I sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner all around in it and no difference.

Any suggestions?

oh, it's an 81 w/ crate engine, edelbrock 500 cfm carb...

did you spray around the base of the carburetor with the engine running to make sure the base gasket isnt leaking? Did this happen after filling up with gas?

no, I'll try that.

No, I've filled it up since it started.

are the two mixture screws in the front of the carburetor accessible? If so try turning them counter clockwise 1/4 turn and see if it smooths out.

I will do that, and dig around on the internet for some instruction manuals on this carb, shouldn't be too hard.
