Guys-Finally got around to tinkering with my Quadrajet, I have had a small bog off the line for a couple off yrs. and if the car sat for a day or so,it would crank for several seconds before starting. I spent the cash and bought a "performance rebuilt quadrajet from Jegs to match my year[1979 L-48] Now the car starts within 2 seconds when cold, There is no bog,but i can not get a decent idle out off it, As it warms up and the choke comes off it starts shaking, running rough, idle fuel screws are at 2 now, more or less does not seem to help Seems about 1100rpm and under it is the worse.Any ideas where to go?-Thanks

E-mail me for my "Commercially Rebuilt Q-Jet Problems" paper for a complete listing of all the issues that are likely to be wrong with that commercially rebuilt carb - you have multiple things going on with it, and it's going to need some parts...

I hope you kept the carb you originally had. It may be a lot cheaper over time to have that rebuilt and to return the 'remanufactured' unit.

Default She Runs!

Here is what i did, spent 12hrs.reading posts from here and cliffs website,
Cliff said that the mixture screws are metric, fine thread, opened them up 6 turns,hey-she's idling, bumped the timing to 10 degrees, from 5[stock setting] backed down the idle screw as the idle was now high, hey,i had a decent idle, opened the mixture screw to 8, perfect, i have owned this car
for 10 yrs and it has never started better, 2 seconds cranking cold and its running, Not even a hint of bog, and it takes off, well what ever 195hp
will do,drove it 27 miles today, highway, stoplights, runs better than it ever has, gave the keys to the wife, its her car, told her to go for a ride, kept my cell handy,She came back with a big smile,I will let you guys know how this progress as i read this site daily but rarely post--Joe
