Default Lock distributor (EFI)

Planning ahead for next winter:

I'm going to add ignition control to the Holley HP EFI

Is it relatively simple to lock a mechanical + vacuum advance distributor or am I better of buying something like a small cap HEI?

you can disconnect the vacuum line and tack weld the advance, doesnt the system abandon the distributor all together for individual coils for the cylinders?

If you use a crank sensor, yes.

You can get a rebuilt small cap HEI for $100. Why mess with your old one?

That's not including coil, are the canister coils compatible or do I need a specific HEI one?

Yes, that's the one, and yes, I read the manual.
It covers how to wire up each version, but doesn't discuss locking dizzy vs small cap HEI
