Default Detailing engine compartment

I want to detail engine compartment while engine is out. Flat black or semi-flat?

Semi -Flat Black. Rustolium satin black is good.

Here's a pic of engine compartment of a '75 convertible I did several years ago:

IIRC, I used Colorplace brand satin black. Though I have used Rustoleum satin black on other projects, the Colorplace satin black is a little more "satiner" than the Rustoleum and I do prefer it. The problem is I can't find it anymore. John Deere Blitz black is also good but I can't seem to find it in a spray can.

I will say this. Flat black is too flat. If you get a stain on it the stain is difficult to clean because of the texture of the paint.

Hi h1507,
I agree with using semi-flat or semi-gloss black rather than flat black.
The flat black hides imperfections in the surfaces you're paint better than semi-flat, but is harder to maintain and keep clean.
The black used in the engine compartment originally was semi-flat except for just a couple of parts that were a glossier black.
Good Luck!

I find Rust-Oleum satin black works pretty good. Also, if touching up corroded looking aluminum parts or steel relay covers, I find Rust-Oleum #7519 stainless steel, looks much better than standard bright silver paint.
