In the process of welding on #4 body mount to a 75 vert. I would like opinions on possible welding the body mount to the frame with the bushing installed. Do you think its possible to keep the bushing from melting. Dave
Not sure about the heat. I suppose it depends on the type of welder that you're using. Not sure why you'd want to though. I'd remove the bushings, mark the top of the body mount support on the frame and weld the new one in at the same height. If you loosen #3 on that side you should have enough play to get that mount back in. You'd probably be better off loosening all 7 of the remaining mounts but if yours is bad enough to need replacing, I imagine that you already have a stress crack or two. This is from experience
Wrap bushing with a couple sheets of paper towels (bounty) then saturate with water. Wet towel will keep bushing cool. Make sure you keep towel saturated.
WHY? just use a stainless bolt/nut and put in a new mount easy enough to make one with a welder....bolt in place to the plastic, wax on a probe to drop the stainless bolt through, and easy nut from the bottom....
I changed mine out maybe 14 years ago, no sweat, well coated for rust, still there, all stainless nutz and bolts, grip nutz with nylon inserts....
