Another question from a novice, but... I have purchased a new rear leaf spring bolt kit for my C3. Are the lips on the 'cups' that the cushions sit in which sit in the spring and rear trailing arm holes meant to be folded over to retain them, or do they simply sit there under tension? The old ones I removed from the spring seemed to be bent or pressed over to retain them in the holes (possibly original). Thanks for any tips.
Not sure you understood my original question. The cups (best way I can think to describe them) which the rubbers sit in, go into the hole in the spring and the swing arm. They extend through the hole and it looked as though the original ones were bent over possibly stopping them from coming out of the holes?? If this is the case I was wondering if it required a special tool to insert them, or if it was even necessary?
Thanks, Colin
Hi Colin,
I believe the lips on the cups were originally 'peened' to hold them in position in the leaf of the spring.
You can do an acceptable job with a small hammer if you don't have a press of some type.
Once installed they don't NEED to be 'peened' to stay in place.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for your help. That is pretty much what I thought. When there is tension on them they can't really come out. Cheers, Colin
