Default Nose installation

I'm installing a new complete nose and fenderwells on my '71. I was wondering, what do you think should be done first:
should I install the frenderwells to the car then install the nose or install the fenderwells to the nose and then install the complete assembly on the car?
Thanks for the input!

You need the fender skirts to properly support and align the clip. You need perfect alignment on the clip in order to get good door and hood gaps and to determine what will be the final placement of the skirts.

BIG job.

My advice is to not bond anything until you have dry fitted the alignment of everything and have it all where you want it.

Hi,
Does the sequence differ if it's a jig assembled front clip or one piece?
Regards,
Alan

I would suggest getting everthing lined up properly. Then, when you are satisfied with the way everthing is fitting, drill screw holes and screw everthing in place. Remove the screws and nose pieces, lay the bonding adheasive, quickly get all the parts back in place, and re-install all the screws to hold everthing in the proper location. After the adheasive dries, you can remove the screws and repair the screw holes.

I second this -self tapping screws along back of fenders. Not knowing why you are replacing, but you need measurements off of the core support and support the frame so there is no sagging. When I did my one piece years ago, I supported on jack stands, measured everything, inner fenders on, then the above.

Make sure to put your hood on before bonding anything in place. You can raise the hood if needed, but you can't lower it if needed.

as crf311 stated, set the inner fenders and hood first to fit the wiper door. if you've removed the wiper transmission, be sure to set it high enough so that the wiper arms have clearance. setting the hood will give you the proper tilt of the radiator support which may have to be shimmed. add one or two extra shims under the hood hinges-you can always remove them to get the best finished fit, but without any extra shims there's no way to lower the hood. once the rad support , inner fenders and hood are set, attach the splash shields behind the wheels for proper lateral position of the inner fender. then start on the clip.

You need to mount the radiator support and the inner-fenders first. It is the support for the whole front end.

When using a jig fitted front, it should come with the innerfenders already installed and located so the hood mounts are in the correct location.
