Default Rotor Rivets

I'm replacing the stock rotors on my 76. I removed the rivet heads and removed the stock rotors. No amount of beating allowed me to remove the rivets from the flange. I ground the rivets flush to the flange and called it a day. How can they possibly fall out on their own? What damage could they do if they did fall out? Am I the only one who couldn't remove them?

I've always coaxed them out first by drilling - you'll need sharp bits.

Heat around the rivet and use an air chisel with the pointed head to punch it out. The rivet can fall out and damage the parking brake or just make an annoying noise.

By design, when a rivet is installed it not only swells the end (bucktail), but also the shank. The easy way to remove them is to drill all the way thru with a sharp bit. That will relieve the pressure on the shank.

All good responses. Thanks. I'm still working on the passenger side front. Did you all know that there is a difference between the front and the rear rotors? lol... I do now. Relieving the pressure by drilling through the rivet makes sense. Fine. I'll go back and try again. Thanks guys...............
