Default Need an underhood dimension

I would like to know what the distance is from the stock small block valve cover to the hood. I don't mean the distance to the bulge in the hood, but the flat part.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

Grab a piece of tin foil, form it into a triangle or tower that is taller than the space you are trying to measure, place it on the valve cover and close the hood. The tin foil will be squashed and then can be measured.

On my '77, at the back of the engine, on the uppermost part of the aluminum valve cover it is 6 and 7/8 inches. I got this by sighting across the engine bay and lineing up the edges of the fenders. The front of the engine is tough to do as the rise in the fenders obscures the sight line. Hope this helps. mike...

Mike,

Greatly appreciated. I suppose this is with the standard valve covers ?

Thanks again.

Tape measure is resting on the cover not on the edge of the cover fin.
