I have a 72 with a 383 that dyno-ed at 460hp and 450 ft/lbs. I am currently stationed in Italy and will have the car shipped to me soon. My brother knows a shop that needs a donor car for a FAST EFI kit. Essentially I will pay for the kit and they do all the work along with a dyno tune in return for using my car to promote the shops services. Here are my three options:
1- The 30227 Master kit with the inline fuel pump.
2- The 30447 master kit with the in tank pump.
3- The XFI 3012350-05E Multiport kit.
I will be using her for some long drives around Italy and some autocross when I get back to the states. I'm doing my homework now but was curious what you guys think is the best application for my needs. Thanks!
TBI is really just a glorified carburator, and probably just better off wth a well set up Q-Jet. Problem with either of them, is the outer cylinders can run a bit leaner than the center ones, and port injection solves this. Usually not a problem, if you can get a steady supply of quality fuel. Either way, port injection emissions is usually best of the options.
While a good TBI setup ends up with a *wet* intake tract....it can work very well. I agree it's an electronic carb so to speak...but with the right software it can do things carbs never dreamed of without really good tuning and tweaking. I've been involved with some Holley TBI's as well as individual runner systems and they work great. I put one on a 550HP 388" last year and it runs incredible. The FAST is a nice one too.
If you can swing the difference cost wise...the multiport system is the way to go though. It allows a lot more leeway and room for growth later.
