Hello all. New to these boards though I have used valuable info on here in the past. Here is my problem and I am pretty much at a loss. My 81 runs great when cold but after driving it 20 miles or so it starts to miss or backfire badly under load and idle rough. I am getting no codes from the ecm and no check engine light. Carb was rebuilt about a year ago. Newer plugs, wires, and cap. New 02 sensor and new egr valve. I know how to do the basic stuff but I am not an expert by no means. Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

Sounds like HEI module. You can pull it and have it checked, but I always keep a spare and just swap it out. Couple of screws, couple of min.
Yea you can get them tested, or use to, at Advance and autozone. Make them run the test at least 2 times. I have seen them test good on 1 cold test but bad on a 2nd.
no
It is inside the distributor cap. Take the cap off and you will see it. A boomerang shaped gizmo that connects to the external connector on the distributor.
