my '72 pump is missing the plastic looking part on the front of the pump behind the pulley.
is it a fan / filter?
does it spin with the shaft or is it fixed to the body?
does anybody sell it as a spare part?
how easily is the pump suppose to spin?
i'm restoring mine to reinstall for the original stock engine look, except i'm blocking the pipes at the manifold end.
was even thinking of making a free spinning false pulley, so no drag on the engine....
The missing piece is a filter and should spin with the fan. Not sure where you could find a spare one other buying a whole pump from a junkyard. It's not worth agonizing over a free wheeling pulley as the OEM system only draws about 1 HP total.

That plastic part is a filter. My air pump was completely locked-up and I had it rebuilt 6-7 months ago. That air filter was replaced, as filter removal most often breaks the old one.
Very specific instructions in the Service Manual for replacement - doing otherwise will break the new filter.
