Hi My first post I love this site I've found so many useful tips and help working on my 81
my hood release cable broke picked up a new one. the steel cable goes all the way in, but does not come up under the hood. How can I see the spot that the cable comes through the firewall.I can trace it inside the car until it goes through the firewall. in the engine compartment I don't see a place where I can guide or even see it before it come up to the latch.I believe I will have to replace the plastic tube. but I still need to find where it comes out
Is it a case where you can't get the hood open? I tried to open my hood when my cable broke, but that SOB is hard to feel out, even if you do know where it is. I messed w/ mine f/ awhile, and even w/ the messing around w/ it, I couldn't get it to work f/ me. Possibly someone on here knows what to use to get to that thing. Just by the grace of God, I got mine to work one last time and didn't close the hood until I got new cables and kit.
I hope you can get your hood open, but if not, I hope someone on here knows the trick. And there are actually two cables, one f/ each side. so it's both sides that you'll have to get to, if indeed both sides aren't releasing.

first the cable broke and I managed to get the hood opened.I ran a temporary cable through the latch and just let it hang down to just above the road and when I wanted to open the hood i just reached down under the car and pulled the temporary line. My problem now is the new cable threads through the plastic tube all the way, but does not come up under the hood, the plastic tube must have a hole in it. I thinks it's in the cavity behind the brake booster.witch I cant see or get to. when I replace the plastic tube I will need to get into this area to guide the tube into place.I think?
