I swapped out to a 200 4R last fall and used the stock shifter and adapter plate. The neutral safety switch doesn't work. No big deal but the shift is pretty sloppy and thinking of going with a better shifter assembly then I can fix that. Whats my options for a decent shifter that lets me shift manually without modification of the console area?
Did you alter or replace the bracket for the shifter cable that mounts to the tranny oil pan? If not, you should know that the mounting hole positions for that bracket are not correct for the 200-4R transmission and the shift pattern will not line up correctly for the shifter. If the proper bracket is used...or the original bracket is modified to put the cable in the right position...the stock shifter will be fine, except that you won't be able to get it into the 1st gear position. The [side mounted] indexing plate can also be replaced or modified to allow the use of that lowest gear position, if you require it.
I have the correct plate and the indicator lines up. The shifter mech is sloppy and challenging to run through the gears manually without accidently ending up in neutral. Looking for something with some type of detent but prefer to keep the console stock looking. I have looked at jegs but don't see anything that might fit in the stock console with out mods. Wondering if any members have done this type of upgrade or used diffenent type shifter. Don't want to reinvent.
