Default Running Headers and Header mufflers... solutions?

What's up y'all. I've been extremely busy with the rear end buildup. I had a question regarding the exhaust. Is it possible to run just headers and some kind of sound reducer directly attached to them to run temporarily? I really don't want to put those rusty pipes back on the car. This would be temporary until i'd go with true duals. I konw it's not legal and it would probably be very LOUD! :jester I'm in a time constraint as everything is almost ready to come together.

PS- Do dynomax ceramic coated headers clear everythign in the engine bay? Thanks!

The Dynomax headers were very easy for me to put in. I only had to remove the number 3 and 4 plugs on the heads, pull the Zbar and raise the car about a foot and a half. There are no clearence issues on my 71. I ran open headers for a weekend, and do not drive my car daily. I planned and saved the money for headers and exhaust at the same time so I did not have to wait. You could get a cheap set of glasspacks that bolt to the headers to quiet them a bit.

That is what I was thinking aswell, something compact.. i also believe i would need to have the muffler shop weld on something that would send the gasses outward so it would not light up the transmission. Are open headers really that intolerable? :D

They can be pretty loud. They can also get you a ticket most places. :yesnod: They sound good to us, but your neighbors are NOT gonna like 'em, unless you live next door to John Force or Don Prudhome.

If you want to see how they sound check out the videos at my homepage. I took a vid at idle with some revs, and also as I made a quick pass down the highway. The fumes got pretty bad since my car does not have ac and I had the floor vents open. It was loud enough that I only drove it about three times before I went to the muffler shop. Once you hit the resonance in the car your ears will start hurting bad. Like being stuck in a bass mobile for to long.
