Carb Problems

A short story... In the early 70's I knew everything there was to know about Rochester quadrajunk carbs. And basically that was to unbolt it from the intake manifold and toss it in the trash. Holley's were THE WAY to go.
One day I met the guy that owned "The Carburetor shop" in Virginia, where I was living at the time. He and I discussed (argued) the merrits and pitfalls of the Holley vs the Q-Jet and I was adamant that the Holley would run circles around ANY Q-jet, no matter what had been done to it. He laughed, handed me a Q-Jet and told me to go bolt it to my car and then come back in a few days.
Well, I did and ever since I've been a Q-Jet fan. That carb made the Holley look like total garbage. My "off the line" was better, the top end was better and the mileage was better.
I don't want to start a holy war here, but I'll just say that Q-Jets are HIGHLY under rated carbs.
Oh, and by the way, I ended up keeping that Q-jet, and 20 years later when I sold the car, it was still on the engine and running great.
Now, I DO admit that I still have problems understanding them and getting them to work correctly when I try to do it myself, but sending your Q-Jet to someone like Lars will really wake it up for you at a reasonable price.
