Default First 'vette window problem

Hey all!
I just bought my first corvette 3 days ago and I'm excited for what I've got in store. It's a 1977 L-82 which I'm told is the better of the two models produced that year. Already though I have a problem. The passenger side window goes up fine, although a bit slow, it's just the drivers window that has a problem. The window moves up and down slightly (about 2 or three inches up or down) but at a certain point it bounces and won't go up any more. After reading some of the threads on here I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's the regulator gear. My question is, is there a way to raise the window by pulling the door panel off, if only temporarily? I do plan on eventually replacing the regulator gear but in the mean time I've got to have the window up so rain and such doesn't get in. Also, if anyone has a scan of a shop manual handy that describes how to take the panel off I'd really appreciate it being posted. Thanks in advance guys. Wish me luck!

congrats on the new Vette and welcome. Door panels are not hard to remove. I have had mine on and off a hundred times lately solving a latch problem.

There are two clips screwed to the lower front and back side of the door. There are two screws straight in at the upper corners and two screws in the pull handle. Remove these. You also need to remove the latch handle. It has one screw and the handle slides from back forward while pulled slightly open to remove. There is a keeper on the lock **** that needs to be pushed out to release the ****. After all that, pull out the bottom and lift up. There are retainers that snap together between the panel and door. If they are original just be careful. 35 years can be rough on cars. Good Luck

I will look and see if I have a diagram for the regulator.

Regulator gear problem is common, stops about two inches from the top and chatters.

The base engine was the 180hp L-48. The L-82 was the only optional engine. 210hp. Cost you $495 to get it.

So not too much better then. Thanks for all your help so far folks. I guess I'm going to tackle the door panel today. I've had a few other older Chevy door panels apart but never a vette. If anyone knows whether it's possible to raise that window though I'd still really like to know.

Last road trip my drivers side power window stopped going up. Goes down ok. I hit the button and my buddy grabbed the glass and pulled up. It worked and we got the window up for the trip home. Try it.
