Recently had an Ididit column for a 68 corvette installed in my 72. Added the Watson momentary push button start to the 68 dash. Had a buddy from the car club who does restorations professionally do the work (not a corvette pro). He told me that there was a short in my new alternator and that he had to disconnect the 2 wire plug in on the alternator at shut off or the battery would die. The alternator gets very hot when plugged in with the car running. I noticed that when the head lights are on that there is power to the "BRIGHT" indicator light even when the high beams are off and the "TURN" signal indicators are both on as well. If I dim down the dash lights , both indicators and "bright" dim and go out when the dash lights are off.
I swapped my old alternator back in and now it gets hot too.
Any idea where to start. Must be pulling power from somewhere.
start with physically locating and verifiy good Gnd. for the dash connections.
yes this means pulling the dash.... I would also get some documentaion form the latest installations you had done.
C3 is wiring is wonky to start with, you really need to know what, and how things have been modified.
Thanks 69 Vett, I do have the detailed diagram from Watson's as well as Ididit. Ididit did say in their documents that the corvette column MUST be grounded. I will start there
