Default Radiator Foam

After a recent flush and fill I had a little issue with foaming at the radiator neck and wondered how this could happen.

This was my coolant flush:

1) Removed the thermostat and reinstalled gooseneck/hose.
2) Drained at the lower rad hose.
3) Used a heater hose flush kit already on the car and backflushed out the top of rad. with hose water.
4) Dumped the hose water and refilled with distilled. Ran with the cap off until water started to push up out of the fill neck @ 2min.
5) Dumped and refilled with distilled same process as before....this time I got tan foam out the rad. neck. (foam was the color of calcium deposit)

At this point I rinsed out the rad. with distilled, put in 2 gallons of antifreeze, installed a new thermostat and heater hoses.

With fresh antifreeze no foam. 100 miles later...no oil in water or water in oil, no white smoke, no bubbles in rad. neck. and temp. holds steady....so I'm really hoping to rule out head gasket.

What would cause this?

Default

you had air in the system which caused the foam combined with residual surface material, as you said calcium deposits, rust, etc.
