Hi all,
Looking for information on swapping a 454 into my car instead of 350. My engine guy has one and it is done and in great shape. What is needed for a parts list? New radiator.... new hoses, flywheel, clutch, exhaust manifolds, front springs, motor mounts, hood.. anything I am missing??? I need to replace most of the parts listed anyway..well not the hood. Just would like to make sure I know what I am getting into......
It is mostly a bolt in. Motor mounts are the same. You do need CORVETTE big block exhaust manifolds though. (expensive.) Accessory bracketing is kinda tricky. HOWEVER.... I noticed that you have a '70. On 68-72's you must use a big block hood or the hood won't close. AND if you do not use a CORVETTE big block intake which is very low and Q.Jet carb, that hood will not close. Anything else requires an L-88 hood. It is best to look at a stock BB set-up to see how everthing is. You will love the big block. :yesnod:
So if I use any other intake besides the stock low rise... I need a L-88 hood? I am not sure if it will look good on my car. I know a lot of these hoods are in use... but I have seen a lot of 454 hoods. I like the 454 hood much better... kinda looks like a sleeper. If you can call the letters on the hood "454" a sleeper.. hee hee. What do you guys think?
Like I said to Brian on an earlier post, you will never regret it. I waited unitl I could find an original big block car and my patience paid off. There is something about having "454" on your Corvette that turns heads and lights up eyes...not to mention your passengers. The 50mph tire barks from 1st to 2nd is fun too! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Good luck and be patient!
