Default '72 Engine Running Erratically

I have a '72 w/ a 350 and two weeks ago I took it out of its two-month slumber and drove it for about 10 miles. Roughly 30 minutes later it started without a problem; however, when I began driving it, the idle dropped and the engine died. It would not immediately start (would not crank over) and after waiting several minutes it started with an initial rough idle and I was able to drive it home. Once home, I turned it off and it started up again without any problems; however, after I let it sit for about thirty minutes it repeated the rough idle and engine dying scenario. I cleaned the carb and ran out the old gas. Today I went out again and the same thing happened. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. AS ALWAYS -- THANKS.

How often do you perform basic maintenance? Assuming you still have a points distributor did you check the dwell angle? Did you check the timing? How many miles since you replaced the fuel filter? The no crank sounds unrelated to the rough idle. I would check all your battery connections both at the battery, the ground connection under the car at the frame and the hot connection at the starter.
