I found a cracked exhaust manifold on the driver's side of my '73 454. I'm thinking that now may be the time to go with long tube, coated headers. I've been doing some searching and it seems like the choice is either Hooker or Hedman. The Hooker's have 1-7/8" tubes with a 5/16" thick flange compared to the Hedman's are 2" tubes with a 1/4" flange. Are there any other brands? Is there an adapter pipe that goes from the headers to the stock pipes?
I've got the Hooker Headers, Jet-Hot coated, but mine are the sidemount version with 2-1/8 tubes. I do like the thicker flange, just from the strength side.
No real adapter pipe, undercar headers usually come with a flange that can be clamped or welded to your current system, providing it's in decent shape.
There used to be a lot of different brands- Stahl and Doug's come to mind, but I don't know if they are still around or not.
