What is it????

Fellas, fairly new to C3's, but what the heck is the stud/bolt and nut that is mounted on the firewall closer to the passenger side? It is vertical and ended up putting a dime size mark on the inside of the hood edge. Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry, new to all this. It's a 1972. I've looked at other engine compartments and it appears that some type of plunger, possibly electrical goes there. It's exactly 7.5 inches from the hood latch position (passenger side)

It might be the pin switch for the alarm system.

Thanks for the reply. I think someone put a bolt/nut in the bracket. For what reason I have no idea. Thanks again for your reply, I winging it over here in Missouri!
