Can anyone decode the door tag for me on this car? Is it a 25th silver anniversay Pace Car? Where do you find the info to decode the tags? If I recall they even tell you the day the carwas made. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/L82-/...orcev4exp=true
Looks like a real Pace Car to me, but it's not a 25th Silver Anniversary Pace Car, it's just a Pace Car. The Silver Anniversary package was a different model, that came painted two-tone silver.
The 78 Pace Cars were painted two-tone black over silver, and came with a silver interior, which was only available in the Pace Car for 78.
The car's VIN indicates that it is a Pace Car. The "9" in the 8th digit of the VIN, indicates that it is a Pace Car. A "4" there would be a regular 78 Corvette.
The "4" in the 5th digit of the VIN, identifies the car as having originally been equipped with an L-82 engine.
01433 is the 1,433rd Pace Car built, out of 6,502 total Pace Car production.
The 152 on the trim tag, is for silver leather interior (Pace Car only). 19U 47M is the Pace Car black over silver exterior colors. G30 is the body build date, which I think is March 30th, 1978.
Thanks everyone. I didn't see gbvette62's reply before I replied. I'm a little confused now because I did not realize that there were more than 1 type of pace car. So there were 25annerversary pace cars and regularace cars, any other pace car options? What are the differences between the two cars?
yea , but thats not santa monica, its santa maria, they're a lot different , different part of the state. even at that, you dont see the rust out here like you do in the north east. they dont put anything on the roads. I'm looking at that engine bay and the places you usually see rust dont have any.

Thanks clearing up the anniversary vs. pace car for me. I still wonder why the seller gave up on the car. I do realize piant work does cost alot and car needs piant real bad.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
If it sells for under 4 grand it is a steal. The underside looks clean and he's probably got 3 grand in new parts sitting there. Make sure you can get the car titled correctly and it's not a submarine car
Btw the Pace Cars never panned out for the investors, they could have made more money putting it in the bank at bank savings rates
