Default which size throw out bearing

I have a 1968 vette with the L79 engine with 4 speed, Can't get the clutch set after installing new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Found out there are 2 sizes of bearing, the 1 1/4 inch and 1 7/8 inch. they sold me the short one. Which one is right for this particular car? Maybe the long one is the right one.

Also depends on what pivot ball (GM) is installed in the bellhousing. Either 1.25 TO for short ball or 1.5 TO for long is what I've always heard. Geometrys can vary all over the place so it's not always straight forward. Got that backwards, short TO for long pivot ball.

All stock Corvettes from 1955 2nd design to 1982 used p/n 908244 which was replaced by p/n 15680264 in 1992. It is 1 1/4" long.

My 1980 needs the long pivot ball after going to an aftermarket clutch.

What clutch and brand are you running? Part number?

Have you checked all your other hardware?
A few things to check:

Ball on frame
Ball on engine
The cross shaft levers…. the levers have been known to slip on the cross shaft...
Correct push rod
Holes in the levers… good and round and not oval,
End of the adjustment clevis worn.
Correct fork
Is the fork on the bellhousing stud.
Is the stud worn…

Lots of things to check, most can be done quickly.. some are a pita.

Does someone have the steps to check proper fork ball height and release bearing size? I see a lot of threads where someone asks but not many answers. Most seem like this and suggest they check other things. I don't want to assume what I have is correct before I put it all back together. Chris
